David Summers Rodríguez was born on February 26, 1964, in the Chamberí neighborhood of Madrid, Spain. He is a multi-instrumentalist musician, vocalist, and bassist, best known as the leader of the popular Spanish pop-rock band Hombres G.
Summers' father, Manuel Summers, was a film director, and his uncle, Guillermo Summers, was a journalist. David's early life was marked by his family's involvement in the arts. He began his music career in the 1980s, initially as a member of Hombres G, which was formed in 1983.
The band released their debut album in 1985, which gained them popularity and recognition. They went on to release several successful albums, including "Hombres G" and "Suéltate el pelo." Summers' father directed the music video for their song "Sufre mamón," which was featured in the film of the same name.
In 1992, Summers married his long-time partner, Marta Madruga. The following year, his father passed away. In 1993, the band decided to take a hiatus, during which Summers pursued a solo career. He released his debut solo album, "David Summers," in 1994, which was a departure from his work with Hombres G.
The album was a critical and commercial success, and Summers went on to release several more solo albums, including "Perdido en el espacio" and "Basado en hechos reales." In 2002, Hombres G reunited and released a compilation album, "Peligrosamente juntos," which included new material and demos.
The band embarked on a world tour, performing in Spain, Latin America, and Europe. In 2011, Summers collaborated with Reyli Barba on the song "El Abandonao" for Barba's album "Bien Acompañado."
Throughout his career, Summers has been recognized for his contributions to Spanish pop-rock music. He has been the subject of several tribute albums, including "Voy a pasármelo bien" and "¿Qué te pasa, estás borracho?" which featured collaborations with other notable musicians.
