Dean Geyer, a multi-talented individual, was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, and immigrated to Australia at the age of 15, commencing his schooling at Melbourne High School.
With a strong family connection to martial arts, Dean's grandfather Stan Schmidt was credited with introducing karate into South Africa, and his father Keith Geyer, as well as many other family members, are renowned for their significant contributions to the sport in both South Africa and Australia. Dean himself attained a fourth-degree black-belt, further solidifying his family's legacy in the art.
Dean's passion for music began during his teenage years, and he spent many years performing in Melbourne, eventually showcasing his seasoned ability during his Australian Idol audition in 2006. He progressed through the rounds, becoming a fan favorite, and ultimately secured third place. Following his departure from the show, Dean signed a record deal with Sony BMG and released his debut album, which reached number seven on the Aria charts.
In addition to his music career, Dean also pursued modeling, joining the agency "Scene Models" in his hometown of Melbourne.
Dean's acting career took off in 2008 when he was offered the role of Ty Harper on the long-running Australian TV show Neighbors. He stayed with the show for eight months before deciding to take his passion for acting overseas. His first year in Los Angeles began with a film debut in Sony Pictures' Never Back Down 2, directed by Michael Jai White, where Dean showcased his martial arts skills as MMA fighter Mike Stokes.
Throughout his years in the US, Dean has accumulated an impressive list of credits, including guest starring roles on VH1's "Single Ladies," Hulu's "Casual," NBC's "Shades of Blue" opposite Jennifer Lopez, and a major recurring role on Steven Spielberg's "Terra Nova" on Fox.
Dean also played a major recurring role on Fox's long-running hit series "Glee," playing the role of Brody Weston opposite Lea Michele.
After his time on "Glee," Dean went on to shoot multiple films, including roles opposite Bruce Greenwood on "Rehearsal," which he also co-produced. Most recently, Geyer has two upcoming projects scheduled for release in 2021, including "Christmas in the Pines," which was shot during the coronavirus pandemic opposite his wife Jillian Murray.
