Deena Trudy Goldberg was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, to Henry Goldberg, a Ph.D. in Operations Research from Cornell University, and Kaya Barr (Goldberg),a psychology major and homemaker. Her father is the son of two Holocaust survivors. Deena has twin brothers, Paul and Michael, and the family moved to Palo Alto, California, after her first birthday. They continued to relocate throughout her youth, living in New Jersey and New York before settling in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Deena's early life was marked by trouble with the law, with numerous arrests and a stint in a long-term locked juvenile facility. She was sent to a unit for violent offenders due to charges of multiple assaults and spent time in solitary confinement after suicide attempts and altercations with staff and inmates. Deena was released on her 18th birthday, after a judge decided against transferring her to prison for multiple years.
After her release, Deena made the decision to change her life and pursued higher education, earning a degree in Business with plans to move into marketing. However, she was more interested in acting and film production. Deena began acting in Arizona's independent film circuit, landing roles in features, shorts, and local commercials. Her breakthrough came when she was chosen as an extra in the 2007 Warner Bros. film Lucky You.
Deena has since appeared in numerous television series, including House, CSI, Heroes, The Office, and NCIS. She co-created, produced, and directed the web series Toke N' Choke Dispensary in 2013, followed by several short projects. Her unique perspective has garnered attention worldwide.
Deena is openly bisexual and prefers no label for her sexuality.
