Dennie Gordon has been a trailblazing female director throughout her entire career, successfully navigating the worlds of feature films, television series, mini-series, and branded content. Her genre-busting entertainment ventures have spanned a wide range of comedy and drama, showcasing her remarkable versatility as a director.
Gordon's professional journey began with her graduation from Yale's School of Drama, where she earned an MFA in Directing, making her one of the first women to achieve this milestone. Her early recognition came when "A Hard Rain" was selected by Showtime's Discovery Program, and thanks to the attention of Steven Spielberg and George Lucas, the film went on to win dramatic awards at the British Short Film Festival and the Hampton's Film Festival.
"A Hard Rain," which Gordon also wrote, caught the eye of renowned television producer David E. Kelley, who enlisted her to helm multiple episodes of his television series, including "Goliath," "Picket Fences," "Chicago Hope," "Ally McBeal," and "The Practice." Gordon has directed over 100 hours of network television, including critically acclaimed series such as "Legion," which was praised for its "astounding direction" and "twisted visionary imagery" by many critics.
Gordon's extensive television credits also include "Bloodline," "Rectify Empire," "Kingdom," "Power," "Hell on Wheels," "Grace & Frankie," "The Office," "30 Rock," Aaron Sorkin's "Sports Night," and HBO's "Tracey Takes On," for which she won the DGA Comedy Award. Her recent work includes the mini-series "Waco," "Jack Ryan" Season 2, and "The Hunt" starring Al Pacino.
Gordon has also made a mark in the world of feature films, directing the comedy cult hit "Joe Dirt" starring David Spade, Christopher Walken, and "What A Girl Wants" starring Oscar winner Colin Firth, Dame Eileen Atkins, and Jonathan Pryce. Additionally, she was the first American woman to direct a film for the domestic Chinese market, "My Lucky Star," starring Oscar nominee Zhang Ziyi and Wang Leehom, which was filmed in China and Singapore in the summer of 2012.
"My Lucky Star" was a commercial success, topping the Chinese box office for four weeks on 5000 screens. Gordon is a sought-after commercial director, having completed campaigns for Honda, Toyota, Tsingtao beer, and Xcel Energy, as well as campaigns featuring Jimmy Fallon, Betty White, Adam Devine, and Don Cheadle. She recently completed a short dramatic film for Huawei, which was shot in Prague.
Gordon is represented by CAA and continues to be a prominent figure in the film and television industry, known for her innovative storytelling and exceptional direction.
