Derek has been acting since the tender age of 7 years old. Originally hailing from Massachusetts, he graduated high school and college, earning his associate's degree in broadcasting and telecommunications from the same esteemed institution.
During his college years, Derek developed his passion for filmmaking, producing his first three independent films, including "Rescue Me" and "Shorts", which showcased his versatility as a director and storyteller.
After graduating, Derek made the bold move to Hollywood, California, where he continued to pursue his acting and directing career. Years of frustration building, he resurrected Coolwaters Productions LLC, his college project, which has since produced numerous independent films, standing behind the company's slogan, "Don't wait for Hollywood to make your film. Do it yourself".
One of his most notable achievements is his award-winning film "Instant Dads", which was nominated for "Best Film" on the film festival circuit five times, winning the honor twice. Derek was fortunate to have his mentor and friend, director Irvin Kershner, assist with the editing of the film.
Despite setbacks, such as a script being turned down by Lionsgate and a reality show pilot being shelved, Derek has continued to push forward, producing documentary films, including "Aliens Expanded", which featured an unprecedented on-camera interview with James Cameron.
He has also produced films featuring his friends and clients, including "Get Me Doug Jones", a feature-length documentary about actor Doug Jones, and has been involved in various projects, including hosting stage panels and Q&A sessions with his friend and client Billy Dee Williams.
As the President of Coolwaters Productions LLC, a management company specializing in personal appearances, meet and greets, comic cons, and autograph signings, Derek represents established actors and ensures they have a platform to connect with their fans.
