Dominique Deruddere, a renowned Belgian filmmaker, has been fascinated with the art of filmmaking since his childhood. His passion was ignited by his older brother, who kindly lent him his movie camera, allowing Dominique to create his own films from a young age. Starting with super 8 at the tender age of fourteen, he progressed to 16mm and eventually 35 mm, showcasing his dedication and talent.
As a teenager, Deruddere's early films, such as "Orange Licht" and "Bedankt Ma", were made during his film school years, before collaborating with his childhood friend Marc Didden on the script of "Brussels by Night" (1983) and playing a significant role in "Istanbul" (1985).
Deruddere's breakthrough came in 1986 when he adapted a story by Charles Bukowski, which was initially intended as a thirty-minute short but was expanded into a feature film thanks to a forward-thinking producer. "Crazy Love" (also known as "Love is a Dog from Hell") received widespread acclaim and attention from notable filmmakers, including Francis Ford Coppola, who helped Deruddere set up his next project, an adaptation of John Fante's "Bandini", filmed in the USA in 1989.
Deruddere continued to make a name for himself in the industry, with his film "Everybody Famous" (2001) being nominated for the Best Foreign Film Academy Award. Some of his other notable works include "Suite 16" (1994),"Hombres Complicados" (1997),"Pour le plaisir" (2004),"The Wedding Party" (2005),"Firmin" (2007),and "Flying Home" (aka "Racing Hearts", 2014).
