Doug boasts an impressive three-decade-long tenure in the realm of improvisational theatre, having been mentored by the esteemed Ron Wilson of the Groundlings and honed his craft under the guidance of renowned acting coaches Duke Stroud and Whitney Rydbeck.
In addition to his extensive experience, Doug co-founded The Box, Albuquerque's premier comedy improv hub, which has played host to an array of celebrated performers, including the inimitable Bob Odenkirk and the incomparable Kevin McDonald.
The Box's improv classes have garnered widespread acclaim within the local community, providing instruction to numerous students and serving as a launching pad for aspiring comedians.
Beyond his work at The Box, Doug also serves as the co-artistic director of the Cardboard Playhouse Theatre Company (CPTC),where he has taken on a diverse range of roles, from directing and set design to acting.
Doug takes immense pride in his role at CPTC, not only as a creative force but also as a mentor and nurturer of young artists, providing a platform for them to grow and flourish.
His daughter, Kelsey Leos Montoya, an accomplished actor and filmmaker in her own right, served as the inspiration behind Doug's establishment of CPTC, allowing her and like-minded young artists to hone their craft and showcase their talents.
Kelsey, a talented cast member of the critically acclaimed "Third Act," has since gone on to direct several productions for Cardboard Playhouse, solidifying her position as a rising star in the world of theatre and film.
