Dugald Bruce-Lockhart's family has a rich heritage of academic and athletic achievements, as his grandfather and great-uncle were renowned scholars who also played international Rugby for Scotland. However, Dugald was born in 1968 in the sun-kissed Pacific nation of Fiji, where his parents were employed by the British government's Foreign Office.
During his childhood, Dugald's parents took him on a global adventure, relocating to various countries including Africa, Austria, Germany, and Cyprus, where he attended school. As a young man, he relocated to England to pursue his passion for drama, enrolling at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, where he studied alongside notable actors Andrew Lincoln and Stephen Mangan.
In 1994, Dugald graduated from the Royal Academy and joined the esteemed Royal Shakespeare Company, marking the beginning of his illustrious career in the world of theatre. Shortly after, he became one of the founding members of the Propellor Theatre Company, established at the Watermill Theatre in Newbury, Berkshire, with the aim of reenacting Shakespearean plays in their original format, featuring all-male casts.
Over the next decade, Dugald toured extensively with the Propellor Theatre Company, performing in various venues worldwide, with most productions directed by the talented Edward Hall, son of the renowned Peter Hall. In 2008, Dugald reunited with Edward Hall for a revival of Terence Rattigan's 'The Deep Blue Sea' in London's West End, starring alongside Greta Scacchi and Simon Williams, whose son Tam also appeared in a Propellor production.
