Dwayne "Bones" Hillman, a talented bass guitarist, was born in the late 1950s in Auckland, New Zealand. Throughout his illustrious career, he has been an integral part of numerous bands, including Suburban Reptiles, The Masochists, Thunder Downunder, Coconut Rough, The Swingers, and, most notably, Midnight Oil.
Suburban Reptiles disbanded in the late 1970s and reformed as The Swingers, with Phil Judd from Split Enz and Ian "Killjoy" Gilroy. Bones' long-standing friendship with Neil Finn led to discussions about him joining Crowded House as their bassist, but Finn ultimately introduced him to Rob Hirst, who appointed him Midnight Oil's bassist in 1987.
Bones is the only member of Midnight Oil to appear in a film, making a brief cameo in the 1982 musical movie Starstruck as himself, Swingers bassist. He is married to Alexandra and remains an important figure in the Australian music industry.
Although Midnight Oil officially disbanded in 2002, Bones continues to actively pursue his passion for music, playing bass in various bands and remaining a vital part of the Australian music scene.
