Edgar Connor's early life was marked by his passion for dance, as he would often perform on the streets of Jacksonville, Florida, earning pennies from passersby. This talent did not go unnoticed, and in 1906, J. Rosamond Johnson and Bob Cole, two prominent African American vaudevillians, discovered Connor and recruited him to join their productions, specifically "The Shoo-Fly Regiment" and "The Red Moon". This marked the beginning of Connor's illustrious career in vaudeville, as he went on to become a regular fixture in the industry, both in the United States and abroad. He appeared in various dance revues on cruise ships, nightclubs, and theaters, with a notable presence in France, particularly in the city of Cannes. Additionally, Connor headed the road show "Shuffle Along No. 2" for several years before transitioning into a career in film.
