Biography

Eduard Martsevich was a multifaceted individual, excelling as an actor, theater director, and teacher. His impressive career was marked by numerous accolades, including being named an Honored Artist of the RSFSR in 1974 and a People's Artist of the RSFSR in 1987.

Martsevich's educational background included graduating from the Theater School of M.S. Shchepkina in 1959. He began his professional career as an actor at the Academic Theater of Vl. Mayakovskiy in 1959, a position he held until 1969. During this period, he also started exploring his interest in directing, staging and performing in a concert version of F. Dostoyevsky's "White Nights" alongside Z. Andreeva.

As his passion for directing grew, Martsevich decided to dedicate himself fully to the craft. He took a year-long break from the theater to study under the renowned director Yu. Miltinis in Panevezhis, Lithuania. Upon completing his studies, Martsevich confirmed his skills by directing A. Martsevich's directorial career flourished, with productions at his native Maly Theater, including A. Strindberg's "Father", in which he played the main role of the Captain, and A.N. Ostrovsky's comedy "There was not a penny, but suddenly Altyn", starring the esteemed Evgeniy Samoilov. His final notable production was a staging of Tolstoy's novel "Resurrection" in 1998.
