Eduardo Cemano, born Ed Seeman, is a multifaceted artist, photographer, filmmaker, and cartoon cell animator with a rich and varied career spanning several decades.
Born in New York City, New York, Cemano studied art at the High School of Music and Art in Manhattan and later at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. His artistic talents were soon recognized, and his highly textured oil paintings, characterized by tiny juxtaposed points of color, were represented by the East Hampton Galleries on 57th St. in New York City.
One of his paintings was exhibited at the New York Museum of Modern Art for three years, while others were purchased by the Chrysler Museum in Provincetown and the University of Massachusetts. Additionally, five of his experimental films are part of the Library of Congress's collection.
Cemano's work in film includes the documentary "Uncle Meat" (1987),which won a CineGold Eagle Award at the Venice Biennale, as well as "Space Oddity," which received a Silver Phoenix Award at the Atlanta Film Festival.
As a cartoon cell animator, Cemano worked for Paramount Pictures in New York, contributing to the animation of iconic characters such as "Popeye" and "Casper the Ghost." He also founded his own production company, Gryphon Productions, which produced numerous TV commercials featuring popular characters like Cocoa Puffs, Sugar Bear, Flintstones Vitamins, Bullwinkle, My Little Pony, and Trix Rabbit.
Throughout his career, Cemano has won numerous awards, including Cleo Awards, Art Director Awards, and Addy's. He also won an Emmy Award with his partner Ray Favata for the animated opening of the children's show "The Great Space Coaster."
In the early 1970s, Cemano created a series of unusual adult films under the pseudonym Eduardo Cemano, including "Millie's Homecoming" (1971),"The Weirdos and the Oddballs" (1971),"The Healers" (1972),"Fongaluli" (1973),and "Madame Zenobia" (1973).
As a photographer, Cemano has contributed to various publications, such as "Cheri," "Penthouse," "Oui," "Genesis," and "Puritan." From 1990 to 2001, his Animation Productions company produced many popular animated TV commercials.
In addition to his artistic pursuits, Cemano has also founded the cartoon t-shirt company Mana-T's Inc. with his wife Amy, producing a wide variety of T-shirts for retail outlets in Florida. He also creates digital fine art on both canvas and matted prints. Cemano and his wife reside in Ocala, Florida.
