Elizabeth Jenns, born Muriel Elizabeth Jenns in Kidderminster, England, was the daughter of Alfred Jenns, a carpet industry professional. She began her modeling career in London and New York City, eventually making her way to the West End stage in 1932 with a production of Noel Coward's Words and Music. Her film debut came in 1933 with the British film Channel Crossing, followed by small roles in Full Circle and Love, Life, and Laughter alongside Gracie Fields.
The press reported that she had a romantic connection with Prince Edward of England, and her photo in Harper's Bazaar magazine caught the attention of producer David O'Selznick, who offered her a film contract. She relocated to Hollywood in the spring of 1936 and was cast in the drama A Star Is Born, marking her final film appearance.
In October 1936, Elizabeth married journalist Harry Crocker in Wales, but soon decided to leave her career behind to become a housewife. The couple divorced in 1939, with Elizabeth citing cruelty as the reason. She remarried Gardner Carpenter, a member of a prominent San Francisco family, that same year, and the couple had two children, Christopher and Deirdre.
The family eventually moved to China, where Gardner worked as a US diplomat. However, tragedy struck in March 1952 when Gardner took his own life with an overdose of sleeping pills. Elizabeth remained out of the spotlight, focusing on raising her children. She later relocated to Wisconsin, where she passed away on January 11, 1968, at the age of sixty-two.
