Elizabeth "Lee" Miller, a renowned American model and photographer, rose to fame under the moniker LeeMiller. Her only foray into the world of cinema came in the form of a 1932 appearance in Jean Cocteau's critically acclaimed film, The Blood of a Poet.
However, Miller's true claim to fame came after she met artist Man Ray in 1929, with whom she embarked on a romantic affair and became the subject of many of his photographs. Following the dissolution of her relationship with Ray in 1932, Miller returned to her native New York City, where she eventually married Aziz Eloui Bey, an Egyptian gentleman, in 1934.
Despite her separation from Bey in 1939, Miller refused to let her personal life hinder her creative pursuits. Instead, she discovered a newfound passion for photography, which ultimately led to her appointment as the official photographer for Vogue during the war years.
Miller's personal life underwent significant changes in 1947, as she divorced Bey and married the esteemed British art historian, Sir Roland Penrose. Today, Miller's extensive archive is managed by her son, Anthony Penrose, and can be accessed through the leemiller website.
