Emily Hagins, a talented filmmaker, began her journey at the tender age of 12 by writing and directing her first feature film, Pathogen, a zombie movie set in her hometown of Austin, Texas. This remarkable achievement was documented in the film Zombie Girl, The Movie, which showcased her process from start to finish.
In 2022, Pathogen was re-released on Blu-ray by the American Genre Film Archive and Bleeding Skull!, making it accessible to a wider audience. Emily continued to hone her craft, making her second feature, The Retelling, at the age of 14.
As she entered her teenage years, Emily wrote and directed her third feature, My Sucky Teen Romance, which premiered at SXSW in 2011 and was released by Dark Sky Films. Her subsequent projects included the coming-of-age Halloween dramedy Grow Up, Tony Phillips, which premiered at SXSW in 2013, and the young adult teen heist novel adaptation Coin Heist, a Netflix Original Film.
Emily also contributed to two horror anthologies: Touch for Chiller TV's Chilling Visions: 5 Senses of Fear and Cold Open for Shudder's horror/comedy anthology Scare Package. In addition, she completed the six-episode digital series Hold To Your Best Self, which premiered at SXSW in 2018, and the horror short First Kiss for Snapchat's V/H/S series, which premiered at SXSW in 2019.
Emily's most recent feature, Sorry About the Demon, premiered at FrightFest in London and was released on Shudder in 2023. Throughout her career, Emily Hagins has demonstrated her versatility and dedication to the art of filmmaking, earning her a reputation as a talented and innovative young director.
