Writers/Directors Eshom and Ian Nelms, hailing from central California, spent their formative years engaging in elaborate G.I. Joe battles with a two-hundred man army and cultivating a deep appreciation for the cinematic landscapes of John Ford.
Although their interests diverged momentarily, with Ian pursuing a college wrestling scholarship and subsequently discovering a passion for English and Literature, and Eshom pursuing fine art painting before finding a greater affinity for comic book illustration, the brothers' love for film remained a constant.
Throughout their careers, Ian has produced various independent projects, while Eshom has worked as a professional storyboard artist for over a decade. However, the Nelms Brothers always collaborate on writing and directing duties, having crafted multiple award-winning short and feature films together.
Their 2013 film, 'Lost on Purpose', garnered numerous festival accolades, including Best Film, Best Directors, and Best Actress for Jane Kaczmarek. In 2015, they premiered 'Waffle Street', which went on to win the Woodstock Film Festival's inaugural Carpe Diem Award for Best Film and the Best Narrative Film award at the Hollywood Film Festival.
Their latest feature, 'Small Town Crime', boasts an impressive cast, including John Hawkes, Anthony Anderson, Academy Award winner Octavia Spencer (who also served as an executive producer),Robert Forster, and Clifton Collins, Jr. The film received widespread critical acclaim upon its nationwide release on January 19th, 2018, earning positive reviews from top critics at the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Variety, and The Hollywood Reporter, among others.
In addition to their feature work, the Nelms Brothers also produce various projects together. Most recently, Eshom and Ian executive produced the series "Everyone is Doing Great", created by their longtime collaborator James Lafferty. Furthermore, the Nelms Brothers are set to direct the thriller 'Capture' for Thunder Road, the production company behind the successful 'John Wick' franchise, which has grossed over $260 million worldwide.
