Shihomi Etsuko, a renowned Japanese actress, was born in the western city of Okayama, Japan. Her father worked at the prestigious Japan Mint, responsible for the production of currency. She has a younger brother, and her athletic prowess was evident from a young age. During her junior high school years, she was an active member of the track and field club, achieving a remarkable second-place finish in the hurdles at the prefectural level.
Growing up, Shihomi was captivated by the popular TV serial Kii Hantâ, featuring the legendary actor Chiba Shin'ichi. She aspired to follow in his footsteps and emulate his remarkable feats. Her aspirations led her to join the Japan Action Enterprise agency, led by Chiba Shin'ichi, in 1972. They tied the knot in 1987, and Shihomi subsequently retired from the entertainment industry to focus on her family and domestic life. The couple had three children: actress Nagabuchi Ayane, born in 1988, and two sons, one of whom is a rapper and the other a racing driver.
Tragedy struck in 1995 when Shihomi's husband, Nagabuchi Tsuyoshi, was arrested for drug possession. The incident had a profound impact on her life, and she began to redirect her energies towards more personal pursuits. Starting in 2001, Shihomi took up marathon running, an activity she continued to pursue with dedication. Her experiences as a marathon runner inspired her to write about her journey, and she has become a celebrated figure in the Japanese running community.
