Biography

Ezzatolah Entezami, a renowned Iranian actor, was born in 1924 in Tehran, Iran. After graduating from theater and cinema school in Hanover, Germany in 1958, he embarked on a distinguished career in the performing arts, commencing his stage work in 1941.

Entezami's transition to film acting began in 1969, and his debut performance in Darius Mehrjui's celebrated film, The Cow (Gaav),earned him the prestigious Golden Hugo award at the Chicago International Film Festival in 1971. He delivered a remarkable portrayal of a simple-minded villager who, after the death of his cherished cow, becomes convinced that he himself is the cow.

Throughout his illustrious career, Entezami has collaborated with many prominent Iranian film directors, including Darius Mehrjui, with whom he worked on eight projects, as well as Ali Hatami, Nasser Taqvaee, Mohsen Makhmalbaf, Behrouz Afkhami, and Rakhshan Bani-Etemad.

The actor has received the Crystal Simorgh award for Best Actor twice from the International Fajr Film Festival, for his outstanding performances in Grand Cinema and The Day of Angel. His remarkable contributions to Iranian cinema were formally recognized in October 2006 at the Iran cultural center in Paris.

Ezzatolah Entezami is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished and celebrated actors in the history of Iranian cinema, with a legacy that continues to inspire and influence generations of actors and filmmakers.
