Mark Hentschel, a professional backup dancer, worked in London for numerous artists including Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, Paulina Rubio, Jamelia, and others. He later transitioned to choreographer, creating music videos and touring with artists in Canada and Asia.
Deciding to pursue an acting career, Hentschel relocated to Los Angeles in 2003. He made his acting debut in the Emmy Award-winning show Arrested Development in 2005, followed by small roles in Journeyman and low-budget films.
In 2008, Hentschel co-wrote and produced the short film Who is Bobby Domino, collaborating with production partner Jesse Grace. The duo went on to create more short films, which received critical acclaim and accolades at prestigious film festivals worldwide.
In 2009, Hentschel landed his first major feature film role as Bernhard, an assassin, in Knight and Day, starring alongside Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. The following year, he played the role of drug addict Richard Conway on TNT's The Closer, starring Kyra Sedgwick.
Hentschel continued to gain recognition, appearing in the CSI: Crime Scene Investigation episode "Targets of Obsession" alongside Justin Bieber in 2011. He also starred in the NCIS: Los Angeles episode "Archangel".
In August 2015, it was announced that Hentschel would portray Carter Hall, aka Hawkman, in the 2016 TV show DC's Legends of Tomorrow, as well as Arrow and The Flash.
