Fatiha Berber, born Fatiha Belal, was a renowned Algerian actress of theater, cinema, and television. Born on February 11, 1945, in the historic Casbah of Algiers, Algeria, she began her artistic journey at a young age with singing and dancing.
Inspired by the performances of Mahieddine Bachtarzi, which she would often attend with her parents, Fatiha Berber's fascination with the arts led her to the Algiers conservatory in the late 1950s. She started her professional career in 1959 with the orchestra of Meriem Fekkaï before joining the Algiers Conservatory's Dramatic Art section.
Fatiha Berber's passion for the arts did not waver, even during the national liberation struggle. Upon Algeria's independence, she returned to her craft, taking on leading roles in various productions, including "Les Femmes savantes" by Mustapha Gribi, an adaptation of Molière's work.
Throughout her illustrious career, Fatiha Berber appeared in numerous films, television shows, and serials, such as "Ah Ya Hassen", "Les Concierges", "Diwan El Garagouz" (Les Chiens),"Fait Divers", "Hassen Taxi", "El-Bedra" (The Seed),and "El-La'Ib" (The Player). Her dedication to her craft also earned her the presidency of the Friends of Rouiched association.
Fatiha Berber left an indelible mark on Algerian cinema, and her passing on January 16, 2015, at the age of 76, was met with widespread sadness. She died in Paris due to a cardiac arrest, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations of actors and actresses.
