Florina Petcu, a multifaceted individual with a rich background, was born in Romania and later relocated to New York, where she resided for over 16 years, immersing herself in the cultural and professional landscape of the city.
Petcu's academic pursuits led her to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Psychology and Creative Movement Therapy from The City University of New York - Interdisciplinary and Unique Studies, and subsequently, a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from San Francisco State University. Her academic achievements were further solidified by her membership in esteemed professional organizations, including the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT) and the American Psychological Association (APA).
Beyond her academic and professional accomplishments, Petcu has also ventured into the world of acting, boasting a diverse range of experiences in theater, television, and film, including a notable scene opposite the renowned Denzel Washington in the 2006 film Inside Man.
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Petcu has accumulated years of experience in the mental health field, working in various settings and acquiring specialized certifications, including Child and Adolescent, Complex Trauma Professional, and OCD from the International Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Foundation (IOCDF). Additionally, she holds the distinction of being a Diplomate and Cognitive Behavioral Therapist, awarded by the Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies.
Currently, Petcu is an esteemed instructor at Foothill College in California, teaching a range of courses, including General Psychology, Introduction to Biopsychology, Abnormal Psychology, and Cultural Psychology, as of the Fall of 2023.
Petcu's extracurricular pursuits have also led her to become an accomplished amateur Muay Thai fighter, representing the United States in world championship competitions. She has also coached at the American Kickboxing Academy, helping fighters prepare for national and international competitions in Muay Thai and MMA. With over 20 years of Muay Thai experience, Petcu holds a blue belt in Brazilian JiuJitsu, a testament to her dedication and versatility.
