Born in Wellesley, Massachusetts, United States, Buxton spent his formative years in Larchmont, New York, United States. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Northwestern University and a Master of Science degree from Syracuse University. Following his service in the United States Army during the Korean War, Buxton embarked on a career in local television as a producer-director in Buffalo, New York, and Chicago, Illinois.
After honing his skills in television production, Buxton transitioned to a career in stand-up comedy, television hosting, and stage performance. He appeared in notable productions such as "Brigadoon", "Bye Bye Birdie", and "The Tender Trap". His television writing, producing, and directing credits include "The Odd Couple" (1970),"Happy Days" (1974),and "Mork & Mindy" (1978),among many others.
Buxton is also the creator of the Peabody Award-winning series "Hot Dog" (1970) for NBC, which starred Woody Allen and Jonathan Winters. As a film and television actor, he has appeared in a wide range of projects, including "Overboard" (1987),"Beaches" (1988),"Frankie and Johnny" (1991),"Face of a Stranger" (1991),"With a Vengeance" (1992),and "Roommates" (1994).
In addition to his work in film and television, Buxton has written and created voices for various projects, including Woody Allen's "What's Up, Tiger Lily?" (1966). He has also provided cartoon and commercial voices for numerous projects throughout his career.
