Biography

Frank Herrebout's life journey began in Terneuzen, the Netherlands, where he was born. During his grammar school years at Petrus Hondius Lyceum, his interests were heavily focused on sports, encompassing a range of activities such as soccer, basketball, cycling, and speed skating.

Subsequently, between 1976 and 1980, Frank pursued his academic ambitions by studying Human Movement Sciences at De Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. His academic endeavors continued as he attended De Nederlandse Film- en Televisie Academie (NFTVA) in Amsterdam from 1980 to 1984.

Frank's early foray into the world of filmmaking commenced with the creation of his short film, Nurse Lydia, which garnered significant attention by being selected for the Golden Bear Competition in Berlin in 1985.

The following years saw Frank relocate to Mortsel, a charming village in Belgium, situated near Antwerp. It was during this period, between 1990 and 1992, that he developed a multitude of screenplays that would eventually lead to the production of his first feature film, De Zeemeerman, in 1995.

In 1997, Frank established Roxy Movies, a film production company specializing in low-budget films, marking a significant milestone in his career as a filmmaker.
