Frederick McKay Godwin embarked on a relatively short-lived film career towards the latter part of the 1920s, subsequently returning to the picturesque town of Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, where he assumed the responsibility of managing the renowned La Playa Hotel. This esteemed establishment had been inherited by Godwin and his brother Harrison from their maternal aunt in 1924. Subsequently, Fred Godwin proceeded to purchase his brother's share of the hotel, thereby gaining sole ownership. Harrison Godwin, on the other hand, opted to purchase the Pine Inn, another prominent hotel in Carmel-by-the-Sea, in the year 1940.
Throughout the majority of their lives, the Godwin brothers established themselves as successful businessmen and charismatic entertainers within the community of Carmel.
