Freddy Chávez Olmos, a seasoned professional with over 18 years of experience in the film and television industry, boasts an impressive resume that spans feature films, television shows, and commercials. Born in Puebla, Mexico, Freddy's passion for special effects make-up led him to study in Los Angeles, where he later apprenticed under the legendary Dick Smith, renowned for his work on "The Exorcist".
Based in Vancouver, Freddy has had the privilege of working with some of the most renowned directors in the industry, including Guillermo del Toro, Neill Blomkamp, Robert Rodriguez, Tim Burton, and Christopher Nolan. His extensive experience has taken him to various VFX studios, such as Double Negative, Industrial Light & Magic, Weta Digital, and Image Engine, where he has collaborated on numerous projects, including Academy Award and Emmy-winning productions like "Blade Runner 2049" and "The Mandalorian".
In addition to his work in visual effects, Freddy has also ventured into directing, making his debut with the critically acclaimed short film "Shhh", which received numerous international awards and garnered over 1 million views upon its online release. His unique visual style was praised by none other than Guillermo del Toro himself.
As a member of the Directors Guild of Canada, Freddy has directed episodes for CW and Netflix's anthology series "Two Sentence Horror Stories". He has also contributed as a writer to the esteemed Mexican horror anthology series "La Hora Marcada" (2022).
Currently, Freddy serves as the Creative Director for Artificial Intelligence and New Technologies at Boxel Studio, where he is actively involved in AI discussions with the Directors Guild of Canada and the Union of British Columbia Performers and Allied Craft Technicians (UBCP-ACTRA). As a consultant, Freddy advises directors, visual effects supervisors, and educational institutions on integrating AI and emerging technologies into their practices.
