Gail Harvey is a highly accomplished and celebrated film director and photographer who has had the privilege of studying under the tutelage of renowned industry professionals such as Norman Jewison, Wim Wenders, and Arthur Penn.
As a pioneering female figure in the industry, Harvey made history by becoming the third woman ever hired as a staff photographer at United Press International wire service.
In recent years, Harvey has ventured into the realm of production, co-founding the production company "Straight Shooters" alongside her talented daughter, Katie Boland, an award-winning actress.
Their inaugural project, the documentary film "Rickie Lee Jones: The Other Side of Desire" (2015),received a prestigious Grammy Award Nomination and is a testament to the mother-daughter duo's creative synergy.
Currently, Harvey is in the post-production phase of her latest feature film, "Never Saw It Coming" (2018),a cinematic adaptation of Linwood Barclay's novel of the same name, starring Emily Hampshire and Eric Roberts.
Harvey's filmography also includes the critically acclaimed "Looking Is the Original Sin" (2014),a biographical drama inspired by the life of legendary photographer Diane Arbus, starring Katie Boland and Maria del Mar, with a cameo appearance by Linda Hamilton. The film premiered at the Montreal World Film Festival and went on to win the Best International Feature award at the New York International Film Festival, as well as screening at the Raindance Film Festival in London, England, and the Female Eye Film Festival, where Harvey received the Female Eye Honourary Director and Best in the Biz award for 2014.
Throughout her illustrious career, Harvey has directed numerous award-winning television shows, including "Dark Matter" (2015),"Private Eyes" (2016),"Heartland" (2007),"Lost Girl" (2010),"Republic of Doyle" (2010),"Murdoch Mysteries" (2008),and "The Line" (2009),a HBO series for which she directed all episodes. Harvey has also directed two movies for the Lifetime Network, "Four Extraordinary Women" (2006),starring Lindsay Wagner, and "Home by Christmas" (2006),starring Linda Hamilton.
