Gary Wolf, a skilled professional wrestler, began his career on January 2, 1988, teaming up with Johnny Hotbody to form the tag team The Gladiators, who unfortunately suffered their first loss against Brad Armstrong and Tim Horner.
Wolf then partnered with Anthony Durante, who later competed in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) as enhancement talents in 1989. Together, they formed the tag team American Bulldogs, which would eventually be renamed The Pitbulls and Mad Bull Busters.
The duo ventured into various promotions, including New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW),South Atlantic Pro Wrestling, and Tri-State Wrestling Alliance (TWA),with Wolf adopting the ring name Pitbull Spike.
Their next destination was Eastern Championship Wrestling (ECW),where The Pitbulls made their debut on April 25, 1992. In a battle royal, Pitbull Spike participated, vying for an ECW Heavyweight Championship match. Later that evening, The Pitbulls triumphed over Jeff Royal and Johnny Hotbody in the main event.
The Pitbulls then engaged in a brief rivalry with The Super Destroyers before departing the company.
