Gemma Creagh is a multifaceted creative professional with a passion for writing, filmmaking, and live performance. Holding a First-Class Honours Masters Degree in Writing from the University of Galway, she has since demonstrated her versatility through a wide range of projects and collaborations.
As a playwright, Gemma's work has been showcased in various festivals and events. Her play, Spoiling Sunset, was staged in Galway as part of the Jerome Hynes One Act Play series in 2014, while her play, In Loving Memory of Dan O'Reilly, was part of the 2021 Transatlantic Tales series and later screened at the Origin 1st Irish Theatre Festival in New York.
Gemma's work in television includes her role as creator, writer, and co-producer of the five-part comedy series, Rental Boys, for RTÉ's Storyland. She was responsible for writing and directing additional shorts and videos, and has since gone on to write, direct, and produce shorts and sketches that have screened at festivals worldwide.
In addition to her work in television and film, Gemma has also directed several projects, including the microshort film, After You, as part of the Made in Temple Bar Festival, and the short film, Tough Love, which was screened at the Galway Film Fleadh and later selected for the International Film Festival Molodist in the Ukraine.
Gemma's experience in various departments has given her a broad range of skills, including production assistance, prop buying, and corporate video production. She has also worked as a project manager for the Irish Chapter of Women in Film and TV, promoting diversity and gender parity in the industry.
As a writer, Gemma has penned articles for various publications, including magazines, industry websites, and national newspapers. She is also the Associate Editor for Film Ireland Magazine and has contributed to RTÉ Radio One's Arena on occasion.
Gemma's most recent project is her first funded short film, Conveyance, a comedy/horror film that premiered at the Galway Film Fleadh 2024 and has since screened at several festivals, including Indie Cork, Kerry International Film Festival, and Bleeding Pig Film Festival. The film will have its international premiere at the Fright Fest Short Film Showcase at Glasgow Film Festival and is the only non-UK title in the lineup, having won Best Cinematography at Monzo Film Festival and scheduled to screen later in the year at LA Comedy Festival.
