Genie Francis was born on May 26, 1962, in Englewood, New Jersey, to actors Ivor Francis and Rosemary Daley. She grew up in Long Island, New York, and California.
She has an older brother, Ivor Francis, and a younger brother, Kenneth Francis, as well as a half-sister, Shelley Francis.
Francis began her television career on General Hospital, where she played the role of Laura Spencer from 1977 to 1984, and again from 1993 to 2012.
In 1981, she left General Hospital to pursue other projects, including a prime-time series called Bare Essence and a television miniseries called North and South.
She also had recurring appearances on the television show Murder, She Wrote and created the role of Diana Colville on NBC's daytime serial, Days of Our Lives, in 1987.
Francis has been married to actor/director Jonathan Frakes since 1988, and they have two children together, Jameson Ivor Frakes and Elizabeth Francis.
In 2007, she won the Emmy award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Laura on General Hospital.
In 2011, she began playing the role of Genevieve Atkinson on The Young and the Restless, earning an Emmy nomination for the role.
However, she was let go from the show in 2012 due to economic reasons.
Francis has also been involved in various business ventures, including the ownership of a store called The Cherished Home in Belfast, Maine, which she closed in 2012.
In 2013, she returned to her role as Laura on General Hospital, where she remains to this day.
