Geoffrey Orthwein is a multifaceted creative professional who has made a name for himself as a photographer, independent filmmaker, and director. His work has been showcased in numerous film festivals across the United States and Europe, as well as in museums and on broadcast television.
Orthwein's journey in the film industry began in post-production, where he worked as an editor and colorist on independent films and documentaries with renowned underwater cinematographer Feodor Pitcairn. This experience culminated in the creation of the custom, multi-screen film Ocean Odyssey, a permanent installation that wraps 270 degrees around the Smithsonian Institution's Sant Ocean Hall at the National Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C.
From post-production, Orthwein transitioned to live production, where he worked as a technical director for live shows for companies such as Google, Salesforce, The Walt Disney Company, T-Mobile, and Virgin. He also directed the web series Sword & Laser, hosted by Veronica Belmont and Tom Merritt, for the award-winning Geek & Sundry network.
Orthwein has collaborated with Andrew for over twenty years, working together on scripts, short films, and interactive projects. The idea for Bokeh was born during a three-day weekend in a rented cottage in Los Feliz, California, and the pair took the concept to feature script, casting the following spring and completing principal photography in Iceland during the summer of 2014. While finishing the film, they were invited to participate in the Independent Film Project's Narrative feature Lab in 2015.
Bokeh premiered at the 2017 Santa Barbara International Film Festival, and the film was acquired by Screen Media Films, releasing theatrically in March 2017.
