George S. Kaufman

Noted American playwright renowned for his sharp wit, George S. Kaufman has earned a remarkable distinction by winning the prestigious Pulitzer Prize on two separate occasions. His impressive body of work is characterized by his collaborative efforts with other notable playwrights and composers. One of his most notable collaborations is the play "Once in a Lifetime" with Moss Hart, which debuted in 1930. This was followed by another successful collaboration with Hart, "You Can't Take It with You," which premiered in 1936. Kaufman's impressive list of works also includes "Of Thee I Sing," a 1931 play co-authored with Morrie Ryskind and Ira Gershwin, for which George Gershwin supplied the music. His other notable plays include "Dinner at Eight" (1932),co-authored with Edna Ferber, and "The Man Who Came to Dinner" (1939),again in collaboration with Moss Hart. Additionally, Kaufman co-authored "The Solid Gold Cadillac" with Howard Teichmann in 1953.
