Biography

George Wilson's life embarked on an unforeseen trajectory, originating with his tenure as drum major in the esteemed Morehouse High School band in Bastrop, Louisiana. Following his graduation in 1965, he relocated to Michigan, where he secured employment at a General Motors manufacturing facility, yet the occupation failed to resonate with him. In a bid to recalibrate his career path, he commenced taking classes at Michigan State University in Lansing, where a faculty mentor played a pivotal role in facilitating his enrollment at Lansing Community College, where he pursued a comprehensive program of study in theater and acting, actively participating in various stage productions.

As he ventured further into his acting pursuits, he persisted in honing his craft at Michigan State, cultivating a strong foundation in the art of performance. However, his initial foray into the professional realm, an audition for a renowned theater company in Detroit, yielded a disappointing outcome, with his initial reading failing to impress.

Undeterred by this setback, he elected to wait patiently for five seasons, allowing himself the time and space to refine his skills and reassess his approach. Ultimately, he made the bold decision to relocate to Los Angeles, enrolling in an esteemed acting workshop in the hopes of revitalizing his career.

For a period of ten consecutive years, Wilson devoted himself to the occupation of diesel driver in the city of Shreveport, seemingly placing his acting career on an indefinite hiatus. Nevertheless, auditions and acting workshops began to manifest themselves around his surroundings, prompting Wilson to reconsider his decision and rekindle his passion for the craft.

As he gradually re-entered the acting scene, Wilson secured his first significant film role as a detective in the 2007 motion picture "Cleaner". This breakthrough performance was swiftly followed by an appearance as an extra in the 2007 comedy film "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle". Subsequently, Wilson landed a more substantial role in the same year's critically acclaimed film "The Great Debaters", further solidifying his status as a rising star in the acting world.

Noted filmmaker, Oprah Winfrey, partnered with esteemed director, Denzel Washington, to bring to life the remarkable true story of Professor Melvin Tolson, a pioneering coach who led the Wiley College debate team to unprecedented success in the 1930s, nestled in the heart of Marshall, Texas.

This critically acclaimed film, which garnered a Golden Globe nomination, tells the extraordinary tale of Professor Tolson's unwavering dedication to his students, as he guided them to achieve greatness against all odds.

In a remarkable feat of physical transformation, actor Sam Jackson underwent an astonishing 30 hours of makeup preparation to embody the character of Samuel, a personage who bore the scars of injury, bringing authenticity to the role.

The cinematic masterpiece, directed by Denzel Washington, a celebrated Academy Award winner, masterfully weaves together the threads of Professor Tolson's inspiring journey, as he nurtured the intellectual and emotional growth of his students, leaving an indelible mark on their lives.

Through this powerful and moving film, the audience is treated to a poignant portrayal of the transformative power of education, as Professor Tolson's unyielding passion and commitment to his students serve as a testament to the enduring impact of mentorship and the human spirit.

Notably, Denzel Washington's impressive dual talents as director and actor had a profound impact on the development of Wilson's own acting prowess. This exposure enabled him to hone his craft and subsequently secure a range of film roles, including "Longshot", "The Lazarus Heart", "W", and most notably, "Cool Dog", slated for release in December 2011.

At the ripe age of 62, with a distinguished gray-haired presence, Wilson has demonstrated an uncanny ability to convincingly portray older men, effortlessly slipping into characters that require a seasoned and weathered demeanor.
