Biography

Georges Séguy, a prominent French trade union leader, was born on March 16, 1927, in the city of Toulouse. His father, a committed communist and trade unionist, played a significant influence on his life. Moreover, Pierre Semard, a close family friend, also had a profound impact on Séguy's early years.

In 1940, Séguy joined the illegal Communist Youth, a decision that marked the beginning of his involvement in the French resistance movement. Tragedy struck in 1942 when Semard was executed, and Séguy's role in the resistance intensified. He took on the responsibility of keeping watch while the movement carried out sabotage operations on the French railways.

Séguy's involvement in the resistance led him to find employment at Henri Lion's printing works, which served as a hub for the resistance movement. He soon became the primary contact between the underground French Communist Party (PCF),the General Confederation of Labour (CGT),and the National Front, further solidifying his position within the movement.
