Biography

Grégoire Krettly, later known as Gérard Calvi, was a French composer born on July 26, 1922. He had a lifelong passion for music, which led him to create his first composing work for the French production "The Patron" in 1949.

Throughout his career, Calvi composed music for numerous French films, including the notable "Gangster Boss" and the stage show "La Plume de Ma Tante," which earned a nomination for Best Musical at the 13th Tony Awards.

Calvi's work also extended to the world of animation, as he composed music for three Asterix films: "Asterix the Gaul," "Asterix and Cleopatra," and "The Twelve Tasks of Asterix." In fact, he created the iconic Asterix theme for the first film, which was eventually replaced by the time "The Twelve Tasks of Asterix" was composed in 1976.

In addition to his work on the Asterix films, Calvi composed music for the feature film "The Crab Revolution" in 2004, marking one of his final projects. He passed away on February 20, 2015, at the age of 92.
