Giovannie Cruz was born on an American military installation in Wuerzburg, Germany, to parents from the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico, marking the beginning of her unique cultural heritage. Her family relocated to Texas, where she spent her formative years, and she eventually pursued her passion for music by attending the University of North Texas College of Music, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Opera & Early Music.
Following her academic endeavors, Giovannie ventured into various creative fields, including film, television, and anime voice acting & music direction for FUNimation Productions, now Sony's Crunchyroll Productions. Her extensive experience in the entertainment industry has led her to work with renowned directors, actors, and producers, solidifying her reputation as a talented and versatile artist.
In 2019, Giovannie made a significant impact in the film industry by appearing in two Warner Brothers blockbusters, "The Suicide Squad" (directed by James Gunn) and "Reminiscence" (directed by Lisa Joy-Nolan),alongside the acclaimed actor Hugh Jackman. Her television credits include appearances in "Queen of the South", "Queen Sugar", "NCIS: New Orleans", and more.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Giovannie received the opportunity to collaborate with James Gunn once again on "The Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3" and its accompanying "Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special". She also worked with horror film icon Barbara Crampton on Crampton's second producing endeavor, the film "Suitable Flesh" (directed by Joe Lynch),which premiered at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival and received widespread acclaim.
In her free time, Giovannie enjoys writing, producing feature films, and exploring the natural beauty of California and Texas through her love of hiking and camping. She is also dedicated to mentoring actors, aiming to elevate her home community in Texas to a level comparable to other prominent markets, such as New York and Los Angeles. Her interests include animals, live music, coffee, physical activity, and great literature, often indulging in audiobooks.
