Gordon Warnecke was born in Highgate, London, to Edward and Iris Warnecke, his father hailing from Germany and his mother from Guyana, South America. Both his parents had settled in England at a young age before meeting each other. Gordon attended a comprehensive school in North London, followed by the De Leon Drama School in Richmond, where he studied acting.
Upon completing his studies, Gordon joined the M6 Theatre Company, earning his Equity acting card and subsequently performing with various theatre companies. His breakthrough film role came in the award-winning film "My Beautiful Laundrette," written by Hanif Kureishi and directed by Stephen Frears, where he played the co-lead alongside Daniel Day-Lewis.
Gordon has since worked extensively in film, television, and theatre. His film credits include Franco Zeffirelli's "Young Toscanini," "Exitz," and the Canadian feature film "Venus," directed by Eisha Marjara. In television, he has appeared in "A Fatal Inversion," "Dr. Who," "EastEnders," "Only Fools and Horses," and "Holby City."
In theatre, Gordon has performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company in productions such as "Julius Caesar," "The Jew of Malta," and "Three Sisters." He has also worked with the Nuffield Theatre in "Borderline," the Royal Court Theatre in "Blood," and the Unicorn Theatre in the award-winning "Monkey Bars." Last year, he starred in a stage adaptation of "My Beautiful Laundrette," which toured, playing the role of Papa, the father of Omar, a character he originally portrayed in the film.
Gordon is set to appear in the feature film "Goldfish" and is divorced with one son. He lives with his partner, Hilary, in Hertfordshire. When not acting, Gordon writes and directs his own short films and co-runs a small film company, 2Step Media, which produces films to promote businesses online as well as educational videos. He is a die-hard Arsenal football supporter.
