Graham 'Grace' Walker, a multifaceted individual, was born in 1941 in a setting where his father, a prominent businessman, owned the local newspaper and occasionally held the position of mayor in the Municipality of Mosman. This upbringing in Sydney played a significant role in shaping his early life and career.
Initially, Walker entered the entertainment industry as an assistant in the property department on the popular TV series Skippy the Bush Kangaroo during the 1960s. He subsequently became a property buyer for film and television, laying the foundation for his future success.
Walker's first credit in the art department was as a props buyer and set dresser on Peter Weir's critically acclaimed film Picnic at Hanging Rock. He later took on the role of assistant art director on the period drama film Caddie in 1976, marking his first significant contribution to the industry.
Walker's breakthrough as a production designer came with the mystery film Summerfield, and since then, he has worked on numerous Australian cinematic exports, including the action-packed Dead Calm and the thought-provoking The Coca-Cola Kid. His outstanding work earned him a nomination for the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Awards, the Australian equivalent of the Academy Award, and he received one for his work on Mad Max 2.
In addition to his impressive behind-the-scenes accomplishments, Walker also took on an acting role in one of the most successful films of all time from Australia, Crocodile Dundee, further solidifying his presence in the entertainment industry.
