Biography

Fabien Marsaud, a celebrated and accomplished French slam poet and lyricist, professionally recognized and esteemed as Grand Corps Malade (GCM),came into the world on July 31, 1977, in the charming and historic city of Le Blanc-Mesnil, situated within the picturesque Seine-Saint-Denis department.

GCM's musical odyssey commenced in the year 2003, marking the inception of his creative endeavour as he embarked on a remarkable journey of crafting and presenting a cappella compositions at esteemed slam events.

In the year 2006, GCM's rising star power led to a significant milestone as he secured a recording contract with Universal's AZ affiliate, a prestigious entity in the music industry. This pivotal moment in his career was followed by the release of his debut album, aptly titled Midi 20, which achieved remarkable commercial success, proudly ascending to the top-ten selling record charts in France.

After the initial success of his debut album, the subsequent releases, Enfant de la ville in 2008 and 3ème temps in 2010, unfortunately did not quite reach the same level of commercial acclaim as his maiden endeavour.

In the year 2018, French artist GCM unveiled his latest musical endeavor, the album Plan B, which remarkably achieved a respectable second-place position on the SNEP album chart, a testament to his growing popularity and talent.

Fast-forward to 2020, GCM released his album Mesdames (Ladies),a masterpiece that soared to the top of the French charts, featuring an impressive lineup of ten duets with talented women. This album was a significant milestone in GCM's career, showcasing his ability to collaborate with a diverse range of female artists and produce captivating music.

One of the standout tracks from Mesdames (Ladies) is the hit single "Mais je t'aime" (But I love you),a duet with the talented Camille Lellouche. This song is a prime example of GCM's skill in crafting memorable and emotive music, and its success is a testament to his ability to connect with his audience.

GCM, a renowned artist, has garnered a plethora of prestigious accolades throughout his illustrious career. Specifically, he has been bestowed with a trio of Victories of Music awards by the esteemed French Ministry of Culture, a testament to his exceptional talent and dedication to his craft.

GCM's stage name, which holds significant cultural and personal significance, translates to "tall, sick body" in French. This moniker is a nod to his remarkable physical stature, as well as a poignant reference to a life-altering spinal injury that he sustained in a diving accident in 1997.

The unfortunate incident, which initially led medical professionals to deliver a prognosis that Marsaud would never regain the ability to walk unaided, served as the catalyst for a prolonged period of rigorous treatment and rehabilitation. Following an arduous year of dedication and perseverance, Marsaud made a remarkable recovery, ultimately acquiring the capacity to walk once more. Despite this significant progress, he still relies on the use of a crutch or cane to provide additional support and stability, a testament to the lingering effects of the accident.

Born into a family with a strong background in education, Marsaud's mother, a librarian, and father, a regional civil servant, instilled in him a deep appreciation for the written word. As a young student, Marsaud demonstrated exceptional academic prowess, showcasing a remarkable aptitude for literary pursuits, which ultimately led him to begin crafting his own written works at the tender age of 14 or 15.

In addition to his academic endeavors, Marsaud also possessed a fervent passion for athletics, engaging in various sports such as tennis, athletics, and basketball. His natural talent and dedication to these pursuits were recognized at a young age, as he was offered the opportunity to join the prestigious training center in Toulouse at the tender age of 17.

Marsaud's multifaceted career trajectory commenced with his involvement in various sports teams, including JSF Nanterre and Saint-Denis, where he honed his skills and gained valuable experience. Subsequently, he went on to pursue his academic aspirations, earning a DEUG degree in physical education, which laid the foundation for his future endeavors. His thirst for knowledge was insatiable, and he continued his academic journey by acquiring a DESS master's degree in sport management, further solidifying his expertise in the field.

Following his academic pursuits, Marsaud transitioned into the realm of marketing, where he spent four illustrious years (2001-2005) working for the esteemed Stade de France. His impressive stint in marketing served as a springboard for his next career move, which would take him down a drastically different path – the world of music.
