Biography

Grant Olding is a renowned composer and lyricist, residing in his studio situated between the Black Mountains and the Golden Valley. He has made a name for himself by creating music for television, stage, film, and dance.

In the realm of theatre, Grant has had the privilege of collaborating with the esteemed director Nicholas Hytner on numerous occasions. Their collaborations include productions at the Bridge Theatre, such as LA BELLE SAUVAGE, A CHRISTMAS CAROL, TWO LADIES, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, ALYS ALWAYS, YOUNG MARX, and at the National Theatre, where they worked on TIMON OF ATHENS, TRAVELLING LIGHT, GREAT BRITAIN, ENGLAND PEOPLE VERY NICE, THE ALCHEMIST, SOUTHWARK FAIR, and THE MAN OF MODE. One of their most notable collaborations was the National Theatre's hit comedy ONE MAN TWO GUVNORS, starring James Corden, for which Grant wrote and performed the songs. The show ran for over three years in the West End and Broadway, earning Grant a Tony Award nomination and a Drama Desk Award for best music in a play.

Grant has also had the opportunity to work with the Royal Shakespeare Company, penning scores for productions such as THE ROVER, THE FANTASTIC FOLLIES OF MRS RICH, and THE HYPOCRITE. Additionally, he has worked on the scores for DON QUIXOTE and OPPENHEIMER, which both transferred to the West End.

In 2013, Grant wrote the songs and score for the animated feature film SAVING SANTA, starring Martin Freeman and Tim Curry. He has also been involved in the scoring of the Warner Brothers' animated TV series MOLEY, which features Warwick Davis, Stanley Tucci, Gemma Arterton, and Richard E Grant.

On television, Grant has scored several series, including UPSTART CROW for the BBC and MARLEY'S GHOSTS for UKTV Gold. He has also worked on sitcoms such as I WANT MY WIFE BACK and THE BLEAK OLD SHOP OF STUFF, as well as one-off films like A CHRISTMAS CAROL GOES WRONG and THE PACT.

Grant's work in dance includes his first full-length dance piece, JEKYLL & HYDE, which premiered at the Old Vic Theatre in 2016, directed and choreographed by Drew McOnie. In 2021, he and McOnie collaborated on their first classical ballet, MERLIN, which premiered with the Northern Ballet Company. The ballet will be broadcast in cinemas in 2022.
