Greg Strause, a talented individual, grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, where he and his brother, Colin Strause, began experimenting with visual effects at a young age. In 1995, Greg made the move to Los Angeles, starting his career in the special effects industry by working on the renowned TV series, The X-Files.
From there, he went on to work on several big-budget films, including The Nutty Professor, Volcano, and the iconic iceberg sequence in the Academy Award-winning film, Titanic. Greg's skills in visual effects soon led him to the music video and commercial arena, where he worked with renowned artists such as U2, Britney Spears, and Aerosmith, as well as major brands like Nike, Jeep, and Pepsi.
In 2000, Colin's work on the Red Hot Chili Peppers' video, "Californication," earned him a MTV Video Music Award for Best Art Direction. This achievement inspired the brothers to start directing under the moniker "The Brothers Strause," with their Linkin Park clip, "Crawling," receiving nominations for Best Direction and Best Rock Video at the 2001 VMAs.
Other notable artists they have directed for include A Perfect Circle, Nickelback, Disturbed, and Staind. Their visual effects company, Hydraulx, has been at the forefront of the industry, delivering groundbreaking work on blockbuster films like Fantastic Four, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, and The Day After Tomorrow, for which Greg won a British Academy Award (BAFTA).
The Brothers Strause have recently directed commercials for prominent brands such as Coca Cola, Ford, the United States Marine Corps, Toyota, Universal Studios, and Sony PlayStation's "God of War." Their latest music video for A Perfect Circle's "Passive" marked their second collaboration with the band, featuring footage shot almost entirely with thermal cameras and included on the Constantine soundtrack and DVD.
