Born on November 2, 1947, in Hubbard, Texas, Grover Coulson was welcomed into the world by his parents, Grover and Odessa Coulson. He grew up in a supportive environment that nurtured his passion for the performing arts. After graduating from Dunbar High School in Ft. Worth, Texas, in 1966, Coulson enrolled at Tarrant County Junior College to study theater. However, his academic pursuits were put on hold when he enlisted in the Army for a two-year stint.
Following his military service, Coulson returned to college and continued his studies in acting. It was during this time that he discovered an audition at a community theater, which led him to meet the talented writer and director, Johnny Simons, of the renowned Hip Pocket Theater. Coulson spent the next decade honing his craft and learning from Simons, becoming an integral part of the theater company.
Hip Pocket Theater's achievements under Coulson's tenure were nothing short of remarkable. The company was the first from Texas to be invited to perform at the prestigious Edinburgh Theater Festival in Scotland and the first to perform at Queen Elizabeth Hall in London. Coulson's big break came when he landed his first professional live theater acting job in the play "In The Middle Of Nowhere" at Theater Three in Dallas. His performance caught the attention of Ken Bryant, the artistic director of the Dallas Theater Center, who offered him a role in "Prologue to All The Kings Men."
Coulson continued to work between the Dallas Theater Center, Theater Three, and other notable theaters in the region, including the Jubilee Theater, Stage West Theater, and Hip Pocket Theater. His success on stage led to his being approached by an agent, who took him on as a client. Coulson's first TV audition for the hit show "Dallas" resulted in his being cast opposite Larry Hagman, marking the beginning of his transition from stage to screen.
In 2003, Coulson auditioned for the movie "Friday Night Lights," directed by Peter Berg, and landed the co-starring role of L.V. Miles. This role opened up numerous opportunities for Coulson, and he has since continued to thrive in the entertainment industry.
