Haik Kocharian was born in Armenia, where his parents, both accomplished theater and film actors, first introduced him to the world of art in his early childhood. This early exposure to the arts would ultimately shape his future endeavors.
Kocharian's artistic journey began at the Armenian Theater and Art Academy, where he honed his skills before relocating to New York City to pursue his artistic aspirations. He attended Brooklyn College, where he majored in both photography and film.
As a filmmaker, Kocharian has written, directed, and produced six short films, including the critically acclaimed "Control Z" and "Charlie," which won the Thirteen/WNET Reel 13 Shorts Competition.
Kocharian's feature film debut, "Please be Normal," starred Oscar-nominated actor Sam Waterston, alongside his daughter Elisabeth Waterston, son-in-law Louis Cancelmi, and Dana Eskelson. The film received a Critics' Pick from the New York Times and won awards at two film festivals.
His second feature film, "I am Like You," is set to be released in the summer of 2022.
In addition to his work in film, Kocharian is also an accomplished fine art photographer. His solo photography exhibitions have been held at the Robin Rice Gallery, James Cohan Gallery, and Judson Memorial Church in New York, as well as group exhibitions at the Museum of the City of New York and the International Center for Photography.
Kocharian is actively involved in charity work and has collaborated with several non-profit organizations, including Meaningful World, African Services Committee, Chodron Foundation, Self Help Africa, and Faiths for Safe Water.
As a singer-songwriter, Kocharian has also performed at various venues, including a recent multimedia concert at Joe's Pub at The Public Theater in New York.
Kocharian currently resides in New York City, where he continues to work on his artistic endeavors.
