Hannah Hilliard, a talented and accomplished filmmaker, has made a significant impact in the industry with her impressive portfolio of work. Her debut film, Franswa Sharl, was awarded the prestigious Crystal Bear at the Berlin Film Festival in 2010 and was also selected as a Teddy Award nominee across all sections of the Berlinale. Furthermore, the film won Best Film at the Melbourne International Film Festival and the IF Media Award for most popular film at Flickerfest.
Hannah's journey in the film industry began with her graduation from the Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS) directing program. Her first film, Blame, received several awards on the festival circuit, and she was subsequently awarded a Young Filmmakers Fund grant to work on her 20-minute drama, Search. Search premiered at the Sydney Film Festival and was screened at numerous international festivals, including the prestigious Creteil Women Director's Festival in Paris.
As a director, Hannah has had the opportunity to work with some of Australia's most exciting emerging talent, including Mia Wasikowska, Callan McAuliffe, and Jay Ryan. She has also directed several blocks of the popular Australian television show, Neighbours, working with rising stars such as Pippa Black, Margot Robbie, and Bella Heathcote. Additionally, Hannah was invited to direct the Flickerfest 'Star Wars' spoof trailer featuring David Wenham.
In 2011, Hannah joined global transmedia company @radical.media as a commercials director. She quickly made a name for herself in the industry, winning two spots for the acclaimed Intel Visibly Smart campaign through Amsterdam worldwide. The campaign, which was shot in Indonesia, generated significant publicity worldwide and established Hannah as a commercials director. Her subsequent campaigns for Adidas and Weight Watchers further solidified her reputation as a talented and versatile director.
Hannah's most recent project is her feature film, Komodo, which is based on the true story of her Broome pearling family's experience of war on a remote Indonesian island. She was the inaugural recipient of the Screen Australia Acclaim Fund, a grant awarded to support the development of her film.
