Hans Florian Zimmer was born in Frankfurt am Main, West Germany, to Brigitte (Weil) and Hans Joachim Zimmer. He began his music career in London, collaborating with renowned composer Stanley Myers on several films, including My Beautiful Laundrette (1985).
