Biography

Harold Meade, also known as Harold B Meade or Harold Brabazon Meade, was born Harold Meadmore in Hampstead, London, England in 1875 to British and French parents. His father, Robert Meadmore, was a commercial clerk, and his mother, Clemence Désirée (nee Dessure),was from Rouen, France.

Growing up, Harold was part of a family that followed traditional, secure careers, such as farming, clerking, or lawyering. However, Harold decided to pursue a career in acting, which was a departure from the family's conventional path.

Between the ages of 6 and 1914, Harold's life is somewhat of a mystery. He changed his name to Harold B Meade at some point during this period. Around 1915, he returned to London, where he married Mary Kathleen Clarke and later divorced her in 1921.

Harold continued to work in the film industry, starring in productions such as "The Rose of the Misty Pool" (1915) and "Mignon" (1915). In the 1920s, he transitioned to stage plays, performing in various roles at West End theaters in London.

In 1929, Harold crossed the border from Canada into Buffalo, New York, and later opened at Maxine Elliott's Theatre on Broadway in the play "Many Waters" by Monckton Hoffe. Around 1930, he moved to Australia, where he continued to act in films, stage plays, and musicals, as well as participate in Australian radio productions.

Harold's connections to Australia date back to his father's working connections. His eldest brother, Clement Meadmore, had emigrated to Australia in the 1880s, and their father, Robert, also emigrated to Australia in the late 1880s.

In 1939, Harold married his second wife, Irene Pearl Cahill, and continued to act in films until his last productions in 1939. He died in Sydney on March 22, 1944, and was buried at the Botany Church of England Cemetery.
