Biography

Harold Norbert Kalas, a renowned American sportscaster, left an indelible mark on the world of sports broadcasting. His illustrious career spanned decades, with a highlight being his tenure as the lead play-by-play announcer for the Philadelphia Phillies, a role he held from 1971 until his passing in 2009.

Kalas' impressive repertoire extended beyond baseball, as he was closely associated with the National Football League. He lent his voice to various NFL Films productions, a recurring feature on Inside the NFL, and provided play-by-play commentary for national football games broadcast on Westwood One radio.

Tragically, Kalas' life was cut short on April 13, 2009, when he collapsed in the Washington Nationals' broadcast booth approximately an hour before a scheduled Phillies game against the Nationals. He passed away shortly thereafter, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire and influence the world of sports broadcasting.
