Biography

Helen Cotterill's illustrious acting career spans over six decades, commencing in the early 1960s with a notable role in the H.V. Kershaw-produced series for Granada, The Villains, in 1964. The following year, she appeared in The Brain Drain, the final episode of the first season of the Coronation Street spin-off Pardon the Expression, portraying the character of Beryl, a vacuous shop assistant at Dobson and Hawkes who was oblivious to the identity of the then-Prime Minister, Harold Wilson.

Two decades later, in 1984, Helen Cotterill made a memorable appearance in the video The Jubilee Years, playing the role of Alice Hughes, a character who had supposedly resided at 13 Coronation Street prior to emigrating to Australia. It wasn't until 2013 that she finally made her debut in the parent programme, Coronation Street, as Margaret Cropper, the stepmother of Roy.

During the late 1960s, Helen Cotterill also acted in the BBC soap The Newcomers and appeared in popular dramas and comedies such as The Wednesday Play, Armchair Theatre, The Liver Birds, Love Thy Neighbour, and had a recurring role in the Thames Television comic-drama Born and Bred in 1980.

More recently, Helen Cotterill has been seen in the medical dramas Casualty, Holby City, and Doctors. In addition to her extensive list of stage work, which includes a three-year stint with Sir Ian McKellen's Actors' Company on British, South American, and Scandinavian tours, Helen is also an accomplished watercolour painter, frequently selling her work at exhibitions and by commission.
