At the remarkably young age of seven, Donaldson made the bold decision to embark on a singing career, having just achieved a resounding victory at an eisteddfod, a cherished and storied Welsh festival of music and poetry that dates back centuries. This triumphant triumph at such a tender age was undoubtedly a testament to her innate talent and dedication to the art of singing.
Following this auspicious beginning, Donaldson went on to pursue formal training at the prestigious Queensland Conservatorium of Music in Brisbane, a renowned institution that has produced some of the world's most accomplished musicians. During her time at university, she diligently worked towards earning a Bachelor of Music and a Graduate Diploma in Opera, a remarkable achievement that demonstrates her unwavering commitment to her craft.
Throughout her studies, Donaldson had numerous opportunities to showcase her exceptional talents in various productions, including a particularly notable performance as Phyllis in Gilbert and Sullivan's Iolanthe, a classic opera that has delighted audiences for generations. This experience undoubtedly helped her develop her skills as a performer and deepen her understanding of the art form.
Donaldson's entry into the professional world was marked by her debut as a chorus member and swing in the renowned musical, The Phantom of the Opera, in the year 1990. Nevertheless, it was her captivating portrayal of Mabel in Essgee Entertainment's production of The Pirates of Penzance that undeniably propelled her to widespread recognition within the Australian theatre scene.
As a renowned opera performer, Donaldson has had the immense privilege of taking to the stage in excess of twenty esteemed operas, leaving an indelible mark on the world of classical music. One of her most notable performances was in the enchanting production of Cinderella's Bad Magic, where she had the distinction of originating the role of Cinderella I, not only in Russia, but also in the United States.
Years later, in 2008, Donaldson returned to her native Australia, reuniting with the esteemed company Essgee, and once again bringing her exceptional talents to the role of Yum-Yum in the beloved Gilbert and Sullivan opera, The Mikado.
