A renowned Broadway singer and actress of great renown, she made a solitary appearance in a cinematic production, taking on the captivating role of the ageless and majestic ice goddess, also known as "she who must be obeyed", in RKO's 1935 cinematic adaptation of H. Rider Haggard's timeless tale, She, opposite the esteemed Randolph Scott.
Later in the 1940s, she ventured into the realm of politics, serving two consecutive terms as a Representative in the lower house of the United States Congress, proudly representing the state of California.
It's worth noting that her bid for a seat in the upper house, the United States Senate, in the year 1950, unfortunately met defeat at the hands of the prominent Richard Nixon.
