Henri de Turenne, a renowned French journalist and screenwriter, was born on November 19, 1921, in Tours. His father, Armand de Turenne, was a World War I flying ace, and Henri's upbringing in Germany and French Algeria would later become significant creative influences in his work.

Following the Second World War, de Turenne began his career as a journalist, working for esteemed publications such as Agence France-Presse, Le Figaro, France Soir, and ORTF. During this time, he reported from Allied-occupied Germany, covering pivotal events like the Korean War and the Algerian War, and in 1952, he received the prestigious Prix Albert Londres for his exceptional reporting.

In the mid-1960s, de Turenne transitioned to television, producing over a hundred documentaries, including the French Grandes Batailles series for Pathé. His remarkable work in television earned him an Emmy in 1982 for a documentary on the Vietnam War.

In addition to his non-fiction works, de Turenne also wrote fiction, including the 1996 television film Les Alsaciens ou les deux Mathilde, made for Arte. This project earned him a 7 d'Or award, shared with Michel Deutsch.
